Bend Ale Run

Run for the Ale of it!

Visiting Bend for the famous Bend Ale Trail? Well, if you happen to be passing through on November 10th, you can do things a bit differently and run your way to the Bend Ale Festival.

The Bend Ale Run gives runners the option to participate in a scenic half marathon or 10k race where the finish line is located steps from the Bend Ale Festival. Runners will be greeted with free entry, delicious food, music, fire pits and a chance to taste beer from over 20 award winning local breweries!

Why not just skip out on the run and go straight to the festival?

Views

The trails take runners from the picturesque town of Bend into breathtaking views of the Cascade Mountain Range. Mt. Hood, Mt Jefferson, Three Fingered Jack, the three Sisters peaks and Mt. Bachelor are a few of major volcanic peaks that can be seen on the trail. It’s a great (and unique) way to experience both, the beauty of Central Oregon and the local craft beer scene.

Also, beer and food taste so much better after working up an appetite.

Holy guacamole! Not sure what I was expecting other than a bed and a shower (first-timer here), but got so much more than I bargained for at Bunk and Brew. Let's start with the beer. Upon check-in I was handed an ice cold beer from the STOCKED beer fridge. After that it's all a blur. I joke. Kinda. Next came my clean, serviceable room with a cool-chick roommate (I was in a common room). Now let's talk about the showers. I mean the shower room. No, the BATH HOUSE. Yes, folks - a bath house complete with a sauna (in a terrible twist of fate, I never got to use the sauna, but it looks fab). The bath house has about four or five private showers, lockers, towels and houses the washer and dryer. Five stars here for clean and comfy. Hungry? Can you say Food Trucks? No? Well then you are missing out because you won't be able to ask where the food trucks are (hint: they are in the back). Vegan and Mexican foods, brilliant and delicious eaten outside on the deck or in the pagoda. And finally - the staff. What a fun, interesting, and dedicated group of people! They are what really adds the fifth star. Make no mistake - this is a hostel, folks. If you are into it, I can't recommend bunk and Brew enough. But don't book expecting the Hilton. Or maybe you should and be exposed to a whole new level of interesting people, places, and experiences. Think about it.

I drove up in the evening....what a nice surprise to find out I had stayed in this historic house before, many years ago 😃 What a great transformation! The staff Matt, Mari and Amanda were so inviting and helpful! The place is clean and organized. The additions of the food trucks and outdoor areas are fantastic! I used the sauna twice and found it to be very relaxing. It is a separate building away from the house and has showers. The creaking wood floors keep the charm of the house! The place is comfortable and warm. The kitchen is fully equipped so I found it was a great place to prepare meals. I was in a mixed dorm that did get warm but opening a window took care of that. I slept well enough for all my adventures in this beautiful mountain town! It is just around the corner from my favorite place for a hot drink and ocean roll...sparrow bakery 😊. I am definitely making this my go to when I return to Bend!!!!

Matt checked us in and was incredibly welcoming! He showed me the available rooms and let me decide which would work best for us. They have a food truck onsite, complimentary beer upon check-in, and AMAZING new sauna! The hostel is just a couple blocks from downtown, so we were able to enjoy all the brews Bend has to offer without worrying about the car. The only downside was the heat in our room was WAY too high. We couldn't figure out how to turn it down, but managed to open the window which helped. I will ABSOLUTELY be staying at the Bunk+Brew again!

Just want to say a massive thank you to the staff for being so incredibly helpful. Long story short - we had to cancel our booking for personal reasons. My bank wouldn't allow Bunk and Brew to refund my card (don't ask!) The staff offered to call my bank to resolve the problem for us. We're from Ireland, so this would have been a massive effort for them. With no help from my bank at all, Bunk and Brew sorted the problem and refunded a different card. Such honest, helpful people. Really appreciate their help. Can't wait to get back to Bend to stay with them. Thanks again!

Great location. Clean, quiet, well appointed. Friendly, welcoming staff makes all, of all ages, feel welcome. Bathouse w/sauna, food truck and beer truck on site! Great value.This was my second of many more visits.

Our first "Hostel" experience. Out of our comfort zone but we wanted to give it a shot and were welcomed with open arms. Was a nice chance of pace from "Franchise" places. Great location. Downtown was a comfortable walking distance. Would stay again.

The place is small and the people are many. But they are doing excellent job utilizing the area available, and, most importantly, keep everything clean and organized. When you factor in proximity to the downtown, then the space issues mainly a small price to pay to stay in Bend on the budget. Parking may easily be all taken by guests, so you would have to find a place on the street, which I was lucky not to try.

I have been to the Bunk and Brew Hostel a couple of times, and it is always a welcoming place to stay during my travels. The entire staff is totally friendly and fun, and Maya and Andrew are very communicative and accommodating! I love that the house is clean, organized and has a home away from home kinda feel. There are plenty of comfortable places to either get some work done or simply relax or socialize. I always always always meet people I look forward to keeping in touch with. Did I mention the sauna, food truck and free beer upon checking in?! Two thumbs up every time:-)

I had the pleasure of staying at Bunk & Brew Hostel last week. The friendly atmosphere feels more like living with friendly roommates, or a group of friends. I had tons of fun with the other travelers also staying there, bar hopping one night , watching a movie and hiking. The breakfast is fantastic, the facilities are clean and modern, the staff is welcoming and helpful and the sites around the area are beautiful. Thank you Bunk & Brew, I hope to see you guys again soon! X

Very friendly check-in. Nice room, nice towels, clean kitchen — very usable. Everything was nicely planned and organized. Seemed like a lot of really nice people staying there — we had to get on the road so no time to socialize.

Wow, after months of being on the road and living out of my car, for the first time I decided to book a stay in a real bed. I am so profoundly glad I decided to stay at Bunk + Brew. The staff was so friendly and welcoming, I felt like a lonely traveler coming up on the warmth and beauty of Westeros. Greeted with a free beer and tour of the house, I was grateful for their comfy beds and clean bathrooms. There were many others to interact with, and the overall feeling of the environment was chill and comfortable. I would highly recommend staying here, and I certainly can’t wait to be back. Shoutout to Andrew for being so accommodating!

I came here on a whim and was so happy with my choice! Andrew was super helpful with the check-in process (which includes a welcome beer!) and a little tour of the house/facilities. This place is walking distance to so many great breweries and there's even a vegan food truck in the back! Also shout out to Maya, Matt, and Frankie, but the entire staff was really welcoming and friendly!

I've never stayed in a hostel before and what an excellent first experience! I got greeted with a beer and friendly faces. The location is just a couple blocks from downtown. I truly couldn't of asked for a better place to stay. We'll definitely be back! Thank you :)

Can not fault it! Everything from the staff, to the location, to the amenities all exceeded my expectations. Never stayed in a hostel where I felt so comfortable and welcomed. Met some amazing people and can’t wait to come back!

Easy and affordable housing. And the beer is cold and cheap. Great option for travelers on a budget. Location couldn’t be better as it’s a few minutes walk to downtown. Highly recommend this well staffed clean option for your next trip to Bend!

Cheapest place to sleep in Bend for one person. Had to get a room in a pinch with a delayed flight; got in at 3am and was able to check in and get some rest no problem. Would love to come back.

My stay at Bunk + Brew during the BEND Marathon weekend was really nice. From the entrance, the staff greeted me with a smile and hello. Check in was fast and easy. The gave me a tour of the place and handed me by beer when we passed by the fridge. The beds were comfortable. I will say that the hostel was a little empty during the time that I stayed there, but it's okay because it brought the people there closer I believe. Although I did not make connections with the staff, I was able to meet five different people at the hostel that I either went out for dinner and others I ended up going to the BEND Marathon race with. The spaces were clean and smelled nice. Overall I would return to this hostel if I were to go to Bend sometime in the future.

This place is amazing! It's a comfortable and fun place to stay in such a great place in town. Super walkable to most of the best destinations around Bend. Staff was very helpful and knowledgable. This was one of the best hostels I've stayed at.

Bunk + Brew hostel is great for so many reasons. For starters you get a beer for checking in. The people working here are so kind and knowledgable. It has a great kitchen with lots of pots and pans and utensils for cooking your own food. Awesome backyard with a fire pit and swing. You get breakfast and coffee in the morning. Walking distance from town and a bunch of great bars. Overall great vibe in the house. Can't wait to see how it evolves and grows over the next year. Thank you so much for the stay! We can't wait to come back. Next time we'll try the dirtbag option! (Staying in a hammock!)

What a great little place. Super close to downtown, and very clean & quiet even when the hostel is full. The staff are all exceptionally kind and went out of their way to accommodate me multiple times, which I very much appreciated. Their corner private room caught a nice breeze and I was able to keep an eye on my car the whole night. While I was just passing through, I would absolutely come back here to explore the area. Plus the free beer at check in? Can't beat it!

Felt like home away from home! Comfy communal areas, super friendly staff and probably the quietest hostel I’ve ever stayed in. Never waited for the shower and the kitchen was always empty. Would and will stay again and again! Can’t wait to go back!

What a great spot! The rooms are clean with sheets and pillows, fresh towels, and the staff are over the top nice. You can either socialize or keep to yourself which is great. Will be coming back here for sure. Loved it.

What a great place for gathering, lots of beds, clean & comfy.Plenty of space to hang with others or have time alone inside or out.Right in town, I would say walking distances from what seems about everything you need or may want.Outside carpet for yoga or just relaxing, patio with chairs for hanging outside.Friendly workers, lots of parking.I feel a pictures show people better than what one call explains at time.I would stay here again.The group I was with rented the whole house "She Moves Mountains" a female owned rock climbing company. The house didn't even have any weird orders like some homes do it was nice.

Awesome hostel, friendly staff, wonderful location for foot travel... I will definitely return and recommend it to friends! I stayed for a week after flying in and loved having Bunk and Brew as a base camp while exploring Bend on foot and climbing in the area.

I had the opportunity to stay at the Bunk and Brew on my first ever trip to Bend. I was warmly greeted by super helpful staff. They took the time to give a tour and answer any questions that I had. I stayed in one of the private rooms which was clean and ready when I arrived :) I spent the majority of time out on the town, but I still enjoyed the communal spaces and the few other guests that I met at the hostel. Everybody was so friendly! Hands down would go here again for the good price, company, and awesome staff. I am excited to see all of the new construction they are starting completed hopefully by summertime :)

Fantastic place to stay. Great facility, probably the nicest hostel I have ever stayed in. Also very reasonably priced. Rooms are very nice and clean, the kitchen is well-equipped, and there are plenty of comfortable spaces to hang out. The staff are also fantastic, with a special shout outs to Matt for introducing me to some quality TV and Sofia for helping me find birthday decorations to surprise my brother. I look forward to returning to the Bunk + Brew!

Great spot in town, though a little hard to find the parking lot at first.The host of the evening, Andrew was extremely welcoming and friendly. After checking in and getting me a beverage of my choice, which happened to be a glass of wine from a bottle another guest had brought to share, I was given a tour of the house. All the areas were clean and comfortable. The kitchen area had everything a person could want to prepare meals, including a Vitamix! The choices for breakfast were diverse and easy to find. The bunk bed and pillow were comfortable and the blankets were more than enough to keep me warm. Both bathrooms were clean and well kept. The water pressure and water heater worked great!Enough about the amenities...what also made this place wonderful was the relaxed atmosphere and welcoming attitude by all the guests and hosts. It felt instantly like home, and though all we did was watch the Olympics and enjoy some wine and beer, if we had been so inclined there were numerous games available to play and books to read.I wholeheartedly recommend this place and will stay here again when I visit Bend.

In a city of amazing breweries, they offer Costco brand beer.Note: this was true when I visited in 2017. The management assures me, via repeated texts and emails, that they now have better beer. If so, that's great. But underlying my original review is the management's focus on making money by cutting corners, rather than creating a cool hostel, which was most easily summarized in their beer selection.

This is a great hostel. The staff are very helpful and friendly, the owner even showed up and was open to suggestions. There's complimentary breakfast and all the cooking items you need including spices. Would totally recommend if you need an inexpensive way to travel and want to make some friends while doing it.

I've stayed twice in the past few months - once in a shared dorm and once in a private bedroom. This place isn't just lodging, you immediately feel like you're a part of a community. Super friendly hosts/workers and other visitors. The kitchen setup is amazing and the shared/free food options are in a class of their own. First time I've ever been handed a free beer as I walked in the door at my lodging establishment. I also want to go back just to get more bread pudding! I really appreciate the business model, somewhat like a hostel but more like coming home for the holidays. Great advice on what to see and do in the area. I didn't take advantage of shuttles or organized events, but hope to do so during a future stay. Oh, and I almost forgot to mention...they have the best prices for lodging I've come across in the Bend area. I'm a light sleeper, so earplugs were helpful. The bedroom configuration is well set up, but noise carries in an old, historic home.

Nice hostel. We had a private corner room. Decent sized and you can't beat the location. It's 2 or 3 blocks from all the restaurants and bars downtown. They offer a cook out yourself breakfast and have beer and washer dryers available. The shared bathrooms had hot water and we never really had much of a wait of any to get in.

This is the cleanest and most organized hostel I have ever stayed at! We had a private room, which was reasonably rated. The free beer at check in was delicious, and our hosts were very helpful and friendly! Great location too, and you can rent bikes to go into the downtown area. Great experience overall.

I stayed at the Lucas House with three friends, and we had a wonderful time. Jay specifically was extraordinarily welcoming, humorous, and kind without being overbearing. The whole Bunk and Brew concept is fabulous - who wouldn't want a nice cold brew on the house after traveling all day?! In addition to historic, the House was great, bathrooms were clean and the sleeping spaces were nice. We made ourselves tea, pancakes and eggs for breakfast (ingredients provided by the hosts). This is great Airbnb/hostel in a great location!
